Atlas Hotel Village *** in Brielle is located in an area with a great diversity of landscapes and communities, each differing in character and contrasting with the nearby Maasvlakte and Rotterdam's enormous port.

 The historical town of Brielle (known as Den Briel of old) is especially famous for its conquest by the 'watergeuzen' – a rebel force opposing the Spaniards, on the 1st of April, 1572. This feat is still extensively celebrated every year. Under the shadow of the monumental Church of St. Catharijne, of which the first stone was laid in 1417, the city gained the trappings needed for a garrison city. Examples include the 'Provoost' and 'Hoofdwacht' buildings.

Brielle is a town of monuments, with 400 listed buildings, including everything from the town hall to straightforward houses. A good way to gain insight into the town's rich history is to amble along its, still completely intact city walls and visit the 't Vliegend Hert windmill.
